However, before you hit the road in another country, it’s essential to obtain a Driving License (DL) to ensure you are legally allowed to drive there. In Pakistan, obtaining an International Driving License is a relatively straightforward process, provided you follow the necessary steps. This article will guide you through the process of acquiring an International Driving License in Pakistan.

What Is an International Driving License?
An International Driving License (IDL), also known as an International Driving Permit (IDP), is a document that translates your domestic driver’s license into multiple languages, making it easier for authorities in foreign countries to understand your credentials. It acts as a supplement to your national driver’s license and is recognized in many countries around the world.
Requirements for Obtaining an International Driving License in Pakistan
To apply for an international driving permit you must have a national driving license issued by the city traffic police. Also, to apply for an International Driving License in Pakistan, make sure you meet the following requirements:
1. Valid National Driver’s License: You must possess a valid Pakistani driver’s license.
2. Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for an International Driving License in Pakistan.
3. Applicant’s Photographs: You will need two recent passport-sized photographs of yourself.
4. Application Form: You must complete an application form for the International Driving permit, which can be obtained from the local office of the Automobile Association of Pakistan (AAP).
5. Processing Fee: Be prepared to pay the required processing fee for the International Driving Permit. Fees can vary, so it’s best to inquire about the current fee structure at the AAP office.
Apply for International Driving Permit in Punjab
First, get an appointment on the Rasta App. This app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store. Applicants can book an appointment after providing the National Identity Card information and required details.
From here you can also choose your nearest licensing center. To fill out the form you need the following documents:-
- Two attested passport-size photographs,
- One attested photocopy of your National Identity Card,
- One photocopy of the applicant’s passport and visa page,
- One photocopy of your National Driving License,
- Medical certificate (if applicable, for persons aged 50 years and above),
- A ticket of Rs.66 obtained from the District Court
- A fee voucher of Rs.450 is payable at Habib Bank Ltd.
International Driving Permit in Islamabad
Apply for IDL in Islamabad at Citizen Facilitation Center G11. To apply, you need following documents:
- a copy of driving license issued by Islamabad Traffic Police,
- Two passport size photographs,
- One photocopy of passport with visa,
- One photocopy of National Identity Card,
- Proof of residence in Islamabad, obtained from the post office.
- A stamp of Rs 30 and a medical certificate (for persons aged 50 years or above) are required.
International Driving Permit in Sindh
For Sindh Resident visit the Driving License Sindh website. From here you can also choose the center of your choice. To apply you need following documents:-
- Two passport size photographs (preferably take three photographs),
- One copy of Pakistani driving license issued by Sindh Police,
- Photocopy of passport with visa,
- Photocopy of national identity card,
- Medical certificate ( (for those 50 years or older) and must provide proof of residency.
Apply for International Driving Permit in KPK
Residents of Peshawar can apply at Room No. 11, 2nd Floor, Tasnim Plaza, Near Benevolent Fund Building, Peshawar. To apply, you need following documents
- Two passport size photographs,
- One photocopy of Pakistani driving license,
- One photocopy of passport with visa,
- One photocopy of National Identity Card,
- Proof of residence,
- Postal driving stamp
- Medical certificate (50 years or above). (for aged persons) will be mandatory to provide.
Apply for International Driving Permit in Balochistan
Citizens of Balochistan province can apply for IDL from Police Mobile Service Center.
Required Documents
- International application form within file cover
- Attested copy of C.N.I.C
- Copy of valid driving license issued by Quetta.
- A copy of Pakistani passport with visa valid for at least 6 months.
- 2 attested photographs (passport size)
Note: Applicant will bring his original C.N.I.C, Driving License and Passport with him.
Processing Fee:
- Court fee ticket of Rs.66
- Bank Challan fee. 450

Note: The fees and charges mentioned in the post for a driving license are as per the old schedule. A new schedule of charges has been implemented in recent months. According to this the IDL fee has also been reduced to around 4000 rupees
